A “Senior Moment” is a forgetful moment that just comes upon you. I was on the phone recently and it was necessary that I give my postal zip code. I know that number as well as I know my own name and have given it out thousands of times. But at this particular moment, it completely left me. Even though I felt stupid, I know I’m not the first guy in the world to whom this has happened.

I can remember my old Army serial number and the license plate number of my Dad’s 1932 Pontiac. But my present zip code? Nothing! A complete blank! I couldn’t find anything within reach that included it, so I had to endure the frustration and embarrassment of hanging up the phone. I’d call back later.

I’m told that that happens to everyone at one time or another, but that doesn’t make it any more pleasant. For what it’s worth, I’m 86 years old and I really don’t have these moments any more often to me than many younger folks I know. I don’t think there’s anything we can do to lessen this occurrence, so I find the best thing is to learn to accept it, make light of it and just go on enjoying a pressure free life. Have fun. Learn to laugh at yourself, and forgive others when they experience the same human phenomenon.

As long as I identify myself as living in this physical world of limitation, I will experience its “normal” characteristics. It’s not unlike forgetting a person’s name. You know that name (or number) is somewhere in your mind’s data bank but you just can’t bring it to the surface at the moment. Your mental search for it is really counter productive because, consciously or unconsciously, you are telling your mind that it’s not there. Because that mind will always believe what you tell it to, that bit of information is removed from your conscious awareness.

We live in what seems to be two worlds. One is finite and limited and the other is infinite, without limited, boundless and all inclusive. These are opposites and incompatible; one cannot be justified one to the other. Webster tells us that they are “elements that are so far apart and diverse as to be totally irreconcilable one to the other.” The finite is negatively oriented and self destructive while the infinite is all inclusive, self sustaining positiveness in perpetuity. We can experience one or the other, but not both at the same time.

To reject the limited, physical environment in favor of its opposite unlimited consciousness, we will not only preclude the forgetting of any finite condition, but will release the “forgotten” element to our conscious remembrance.

I heard it said once that nothing important is urgent and nothing urgent is important. The positiveness of the real, infinite consciousness, of which I am integral part, will continue to operate and maintain the integrity of my perfect consciousness independent of any claimed negative opposite, so I know I’m in good hands.

——————————————————–

Over the past 50+ years working as a creative consultant, with focus on problem solving, Davis Goss has developed, tested and proven a singularly unique approach to resolving “impossible” problems to the benefit of a widely diverse client base.

Unlike any other, his discovery is a radical departure from traditionally accepted problem solving methods that are based on academic theory and philosophical abstractions and are without scientific principles. His scientific approach is based solely on impersonal, universal, natural laws and principles that, by their very nature and definition, assure positive results with predictable certainty.

The logical continuity of these natural laws and principles are explained in detail in his book, “The Science of LIVING BETTER FOREVER” available in print form from Amazon or in an expanded E-book version through his website. If you are coming up against obstacles in life that you simply can find no way around, read Davis’ book to find simple solutions to your problems.

I have already posted a blog post relative to the New Year and making (or not making) resolutions.

But if you will be kind enough to indulge an old timer, this day marks my wedding anniversary. My wife and I have been married 62 years today and when I tell people about it, they stand in awe of such longevity. It comes as no surprise to us, we expected it.

It tears me apart when I read the current divorce rate is at 50% and so many couples who are still married but admittedly are not happy. We can testify to the fact that a marriage can get better with time. When there is a genuine bond and intent to give 100% by each partner, there is no room for conflict or friction.

We’ve been through a lot together and the tough times contribute just as much to the bond as the good ones. (You might want to review the Blog I posted earlier entitled “Meaningful Visits”).

At the risk of seeming commercial, if you are contemplating marriage or are in one now, you can understand why I urge you to read my book, “The Science of LIVING BETTER FOREVER”. It presents a good solid foundation upon which to build all life experiences. It sure worked (and is still working) for us.

Marriage is a team effort and the joy of sharing grows as the anniversaries pile up. I hope you all can have as perfect life together as we have.

Like everybody else, I have always taken myself for granted. I’m just a normal guy going through this thing we call “LIFE” like everyone else. While contemplating this tapestry recently, I recalled an incident many years ago when I was a young fellow. I was approached by a younger kid who stopped me to ask directions, “Excuse me, Mister,” he said.

MISTER !

This was a first for me. If ever there was a right of passage that identified me as an accepted “adult” with some semblance of coming authority, this was surely IT.

Fast forward to a more recent time. I overheard a person refer to me as that “older gentleman.”

What’s going on here? What’s changed? Who am I, really? As far as I am concerned, I’m the same “Dave Goss” I’ve always been. I have always been aware of being “me”… NOW…..devoid of anything called time other than to be aware of a continuity of events and circumstances that has comprised the tapestry of my life experiences.

Close your eyes and see if you can accept the fact that the only “place” these experiences can exist is as mental images in your present consciousness awareness.

Rene Descartes, back in the 15th century, made the observation, “Cogito ergo sum,” which translates from Latin as “I think, therefore, I am.” First person. Singular. Present tense.

One could make the argument that we have TWO existences. One is a “human” persona who experiences a never ending continuity of events and circumstances over which we seem to have no control. These are really sensations occurring in my personal ever-present conscious NOW and flow into an unknown something we call a future leaving only a mental awareness of them in a wake we call the past.

The way my reasoning process works, I couldn’t just leave it there. Among the other characteristics, I am also an observer contemplating these phenomena. “Who or what is this ‘observer’ who is aware of such things? ‘Wherein is he to be accounted of?’” (Isaiah 2:22)

“Let us reason together,” go back to Descartes and realize that included in this awareness that “I am” I include the capacity to reason which Webster defines as, “an orderly, logical mode of thinking; the power of the intellect by which one attains to truth and knowledge.”

I know I am not self-created, so I must be the result of a greater power that did. And whatever “power” this is must be all-inclusive and infinite: “That which is limitless, boundless, endless and greater than any pre-assigned finite value however great.” (Webster)

By its very nature and definition, there is no place or time for infinity to be anything other than infinite and, therefore, could never have had a beginning nor and ending; just all-inclusive self-awareness. Whatever is true of infinity, is true of me. NOTHING ELSE IS! Logic demands that we accept the fact that “I am” is an integral part of, and under the absolute control of, ONE single, undivided infinite IS-ness. Period.

How do I know this? Because the “I” of me is the “I am” of consciousness… Being an element of infinity it all comes from within, as Galileo noted. By its very nature and definition, NOTHING can exist independent of this infinite inner thing we call CONSCIOUSNESS. I am individually experiencing this in the constancy of an ever-present NOW as defined by Webster as an “awareness, known or felt by one’s inner self.”

Somewhere between “Mister” and that “elderly gentleman” something happened. As I look back, that which I thought were overwhelming problems awakened me to realize that all my problems emanated from one root cause, and when I could understand and implement this common cause all problems, regardless of their nature or apparent severity, would disappear as effortlessly as darkness disappears in the presence of light.

That was more than 50 years ago and the principles are still working. For example, all my obligatory physical check-ups bring forth a common question from the Doctors, “What are you doing? You’re 86 and are healthier than most peoples half your age.” I tell them that I read a good book.

“Oh,” they ask, “the Bible, huh?”

“Well, that, too,” I tell them. “But I’ve written my own book telling others how they can learn and experience “The Science of LIVING BETTER FOREVER” the way I have.”

I think it’s pretty good…. it’s certainly refreshingly different from all the others. At the risk of seeming overly pushy, I invite you to my website www.livingbetterforever.com and check it out. For $8.95 you can download a copy and have all you will ever need to know to change your world as I have mine. If it provokes questions, and it probably will, contact me and let me fill in the gaps.

Today, I am neither “Mister” at one end nor that “elderly gentleman” at the other. I’m just a happy guy living in an infinite world with “Health to spare, Love to share and Friends who care” and doing so in a present NOW without a limited sense of anything. What a world! I love it! My new “raison d’etre” is to share my proven, scientific message with others seeking peace, success and prosperity in a chaotic world seemingly bent on self-destruction.

Laws and principles do not include any concept of “time”. They are. They exist. They operate in perpetuity and enforce their own irrevocable authority and do so without any sense of past, present or future.

Once every year the world tells us that it is keeping score by reminding us of a thing called a “birthday”. We take them for granted until, after we’ve had so many, they become meaningless. Then after a few years in this mode, we find ourselves slipping into a mode of deeper contemplation and reflection.

I heard it said once that “time stands still, ‘tis we who pass”. This week the world’s score keeper is telling me that I’ve racked up 85 of those things it calls “years” and that, by its standards, I’m getting older and should experience certain changes in my world.

Well, they’re right. I am experiencing changes. My life is getting better. I’m finding out just what this belief called “time” is all about. I’m finding out it is a non-entity that is next to impossible to define.

My dictionary list 18 variations and interpretations for “time”. It defines itself as a “something” that has no single definition because our individual sense of it is in a state of constant change. Whatever its definition at this moment, it is happening in a constant NOW. We live in the moment. We cannot live in the past. We can remember events and circumstances that may have taken “days”, “months” or “years” that can fly by in a second in our memory. But we cannot relive them. We cannot live in the “future” because it doesn’t exist except as a concept. In our mode of “deeper contemplation”, we realize that our present experience of the moment is the infinity of our being…without any sense of “time”.

“The Search for Life” and “Overcoming Our False Identity” bear particular relevance to this topic. Study these articles and contemplate their logic and reasoning as they relate to the human belief of “time”.

“Cogito ergo sum“. (Rene Descartes) “I think, therefore I am“. I have an identity that is defined as “consciousness”; an awareness. Period! It has nothing to do with a measurement called “time” or a person called “me”. In fact “life”, by Webster’s definition, is a “quality that distinguishes … (my being)…from inanimate matter (the human form)”. This being (the I that I am) is governed by universal “natural laws and principles,” not by human speculation, conjecture or score keeping. Laws and principles do not include any concept of “time”. They are. They exist. They operate in perpetuity and enforce their own irrevocable authority and do so without any sense of past, present or future.

So “Thank You” for your kind wishes for a Happy Birthday. I feel the love and sincerity that motivates the thought and I do appreciate it. I will enthuse over the “celebration” my family may have planned. I will enjoy it NOW and store it in my data bank of memories. And you will understand me when I continue to contemplate experiencing a constant “NOW” and feel the excitement of “the creative and controlling forces of the universe” as they continue manifesting themselves as that which I am… Now!

I must be doing something right because people frequently ask me what I do to look, feel and act so “young”. I tell them it’s no secret.
