The content of your consciousness, or mindset, is the most powerful force in the universe.  This content is comprised of IDEAS.   Ideas are “mental images in thought” (Webster) and reside only within your own consciousness awareness, or, mind.

An uptight world grabs our attention and we respond to it.  There seems to be ample justification for our worries, frustrations, anxieties and fear of the future just by virtue of being born into a world seemingly on a path of self destruction..  We need a diversion; a new perspective.

I am reminded of the story of some New York business men who heard that in the then-wild west there were great opportunities for new, profitable enterprises.  They decided to check it out so they boarded a train to Texas.  At the train station, they boarded a stage coach that would take them to their hotel.

The stage coach was driven by a grizzly old experienced driver who drove his horses at full gallop along narrow dirt trails, around tight curves and frighteningly close to drop-off cliffs.

His greenhorn passengers felt sure this old man was bent on self-destruction and was going to take them with him!

When the driver saw his passengers were cowering in absolute fear and hanging on for dear life, he turned to them and said, “Say folks.  If you want to enjoy this ride you’ll have to learn how the set loose!”

Living in a turbulent world we all need to learn how to “set loose.”  We need to reserve a quiet place in our mind into which we can retire to set loose for a minute.

A few years ago I saw the following that gave me a new perspective.  I don’t know what genius originated it, but it’s worthy of review every now and then:

• Do a cartwheel
• Sing into your hairbrush
• Dunk your cookies
• Play a game where you make up the rules as you go along
• Step carefully over sidewalk cracks
• Kiss a frog, just in case
• Blow the wrapper off a straw
• Stay up after your bedtime
• Eat desSert first
• Put way too much sugar on your cereal
• Giggle for no reason
• Make cool screeching noises every time you turn a corner.

There!    Now I feel better. What would you add to this list?

It’s a good thing to refocus our attention on the significance of these events and become conscious of the ever present thread of higher values running through us all that we can count on “when all else fails.” It’s unfortunate that we subordinate these truths to the “realities” we place on human events and circumstances because in so doing we are cheating ourselves of real peace, joy, success, prosperity and freedom.

Those of you who follow this blog know about my emphasis on a truly scientific approach to achieving harmonious life experiences. When I first contemplated sharing my unique procedure and writing my book, “The Science of LIVING BETTTER FOREVER,” I purposely omitted any biblical references for fear of being branded as just another religious book. I felt the Market was already full of them and didn’t need another. But I have been surprised lately by being asked, “Where does God fit into all this?”

I am a pretty fair student of the Bible and consider it to be one of the most scientific manual ever written! My “scientific” approach is built on some very specific biblical references that are as unchallengeable as two plus two equals four!

Got a problem or tough challenge that resists your best efforts to resolve? Consider the logic of this wake up call in James 4: 2-4, “Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss.”

This prompts us to examine the materially oriented methods we have proven to be so consistently ineffective and listen to the answer: “Your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of these things ; seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matt 6: 32-33).

We are not only told that everything already exists in “the kingdom of God” but we are told where to find it: “the kingdom of God lies within you” (Luke 17:21).

We are cautioned that if we “ask and receive not, we have asked amiss.” We have unintentionally invoked the law that says, “a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand” (Mark 3: 24).

These are established facts shared with us from the very source of our being. They are promises that cannot be reversed. This all inclusive God further confirms His promises when He assures us that “What things soever ye desire… believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them” (Mark 11: 24).

Let’s be grateful that, at neatly spaced intervals throughout the year, we are reminded of our true heritage based on irrevocable spiritual law! We are told that “It I your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:31-21). It’s FREE! What a Guy! I’m glad we’re on the same team!

It seems that any “unusual event, thing, circumstance or accomplishment” (Webster) could be considered a miracle. It also carries the caveat that it is a “divine intervention” but considering all the definitions for “divine,” a miracle is not something that one can call forth with any degree of certainty. As noted in The Song of Bernadette, “To those who believe in God, no explanation is necessary. To those who do not believe in God, no explanation is possible.”

Miracles, then, would appear to be subjective experiences. Lourdes is considered a location particularly conducive to miracles and attracts thousands of hopefuls every year. Yet the number of fatal accidents that occur on the way to and from Lourdes is considerable higher than the 67 alleged miracles due to faith healing since 2005.

The fundamental nature of the universe can only be defined as INFINITY which, by definition, is, “that which is limitless, boundless, endless, greater than any pre-assigned finite value however great.” (Webster) That which is infinite all-inclusive, power and presence and includes nothing unlike itself.. Infinity is complete; it maintains and sustains its own integrity by its own laws and principles which are absolute and not subject to challenge or debate.

Our individual, inseparable oneness with this all inclusive infinity is our true identity. We can no more be separated from this true identity than heat and light can be separated from the sun.

Our individual success, prosperity, freedom and pressure-free life experiences, then, constitute our being.

We make our own miracles in proportion to our maintaining a conscious awareness of our unlimited true identity. If and when these experiences cannot be explained in “normal” terms and seem to be contrary to usual finite experiences, we tend to label them as miracles.

This infinite mindset has always been a way of life for my wife and me, so when we found ourselves caught in the middle of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, we instinctively rejected the appearance of destruction, distress and loss. We maintained the integrity of (and had proven many times) our conscious awareness based on the infinite nature of our true identity. Although we were in an isolated “survival mode” for four days, unanticipated events and circumstances presented themselves to us and within a relatively few weeks we found ourselves in a new, furnished home in New England. Although we had lost everything to Katrina, all our needs were, and continue to be, abundantly met.

Those who are familiar with our experience call it a miracle. Although we didn’t know the details of how things would unfold, to my wife and me our removal from the disaster was natural, normal and, yes, expected. We maintained an attitude of “positive expectancy”:

knowing the results BEFORE they happen.

It is indisputable that you are consciously aware of your own existence. As Rene Descartes observed, “Cogito erg sum,” “I think, therefore I am.”  Your awareness is first person, singular, present tense.  If you are reading this, you exist and are consciously aware of it.

You know that you did not create yourself and must, therefore, be part of a source that DID.  You are an effect.  An effect cannot initiate any action of and is completely dependent upon its cause. You, like this source, are all-inclusive, unlimited and unencumbered by any external influences or conditions.  This total embodiment is what we call INFINITY; described by Webster as, “that which is limitless, boundless, endless; greater than any pre-assigned finite value however great.”  This is your true identity, the only source and cause of your being.

To be “infinite,” infinity must be infinite; it can know only itself and cannot abide anything that claims to oppose or challenge it.

Being the incorporeal fulfillment of infinity, you are pure consciousness which Webster defines as “that which is aware; known or felt by one’s inner self; the upper levels of mental life of which a person is aware” and spiritual.

According to Webster, SPIRITUAL is “incorporeal; a life-giving force; an animating principle; having no material body or form,” and  LIFE as “a quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being from a dead body or inanimate matter.”

That’s it. That’s who and what YOU are, always have been and always will be; sustained and maintained by one infinite consciousness in perpetuity.  (Ooops!  Time is a human concept. As infinity, there is no such thing as “time;” only a perpetual NOW.  Think about this!)

Stop right here and completely yield to this infinite conscious awareness.  Let it dominate your mindset.

Note that there is absolutely no reference to anything finite, material or humanly circumscribed which, according to the laws of opposites, are fraudulent, unreal, misrepresentations of the truth and without substance, power or authority.  Close your eyes and let your conscious awareness expand to embrace ONLY the unlimited vastness of your true infinite identity.

Don’t think “up to” this mindset from your false human sense of identity.   Reject it and quietly think out from the infinity of your true being.   Assume a LISTENING attitude and be responsive to the truths that reveal themselves to your consciousness.

Your consciousness comprises only mental images emanating as a constant presence from within you.  Despite their finite external appearance as person, places or things, your life experiences are expressions, or effects, of your own personal, individual oneness with infinity’s incorporeal all-inclusive total.

The nature of infinity’s being forbids, negates and removes the appearance of anything unlike itself.  This action is what we call healing.  What we call “miracles” are simply infinity’s natural laws and principles in action.

This perspective is a radical departure from conventionally accepted habitual thought patterns and can provoke a lot of questions.  If you desire clarification on any point, please contact me.

It would seem as though nothing has changed and we are still innocent victims of situations and conditions over which we have no control. We will still accept that as a “norm” that we inherited just by virtue of being born. As far as I can tell, it’s been that way for as long as I can remember and it looks like 2010 is destined to be more of the same.

I felt this way more than 50 years ago when I made a great discovery. I discovered that I DID have control because of one underlying, and often ignored, principle that trumps all the grief the world can offer. There actually are “creative and controlling forces of the universe” that by their very nature and definition, maintain and sustain the universe in perfect balance, harmony and perpetuity. And, because of our inexorable oneness with it, we are its prime beneficiaries.

It is the Law! LAW is defined by Webster as “rules and principles that always work and are enforced by a governing authority.” We couldn’t escape it if we wanted to!

This condition is the diametric opposite of the appearance of a “world” in turmoil, threats and violence leading to what “experts” have decided will be “the end of times.”

“OPPOSITES” are a natural phenomenon in the physical, finite world. Unless we consciously do something about it, it will operate in our individual experie3nce. It is the clash of opposites that produces all problems, chaos and confusion. Webster defines “opposites” as:

elements that are so apart and diverse as to be totally irreconcilable one to the other… elements  that are in extreme diametric opposition.

To exercise our individual control and dominion over the chaos, fear. Anxiety and self- destruction, we must make a committed separation between the finite, physical world –

FINITE: “having definite or definable limits; a limited nature of existence.”

and the infinite, spiritual universe –

INFINITE: “Limitless, boundless, endless; unlimited, spiritual.”

SPIRITUAL: “Incorporeal; a life-giving force; an animating principle; having no material body or form”.

“Finite” and “Infinite” are opposites and, as such, cannot commingle or coexist. You can have one or the other but not both at the same time. One absolutely negates the other. It is the Law.

To experience the harmony and perfection of the infinite universe, we must completely REJECT the negative elements comprising the physical “world” and embrace the all-inclusive infinity of the universe. There are no other options. The choice is yours.

While a positive mindset can produce positive results, any deviation into a negative mindset can cancel the positive intent and yield negative results.

Unfortunately, I have heard some well respected motivational speakers proclaim a position that, from my perspective, will perpetuate less than desirable results because they are devoid of any demonstrable operating, scientific principles.

Too seldom, they do not realize that positiveness is a precise, scientific natural law and principle and not a mood or emotion that can be turned on and off. Webster tells us that anything POSITIVE is “that which is real, not speculative, not fictitious and logically affirmative. It is that which has or expresses actual existence.” Nothing wishy-washy here!

At one time or another, I think we have all witnessed a new devotee to this philosophy: they put on a silly grin, look like they just swallowed a goldfish, proclaim all is sweetness and light while throwing rose petals at the feet of the devil hoping that somehow he will be appeased.

Positiveness is not a game. It is a power that is unopposed, irrevocable and cannot be successfully challenged, debated, circumvented or modified. Positiveness is an infinite power that is a law of annihilation to anything that would opposes it. Positiveness cannot tolerate anything unlike itself; it is a self enforcing law that is totally impersonal. Its operation is not something you or I can influence no matter how fervently we want the outcome to “go our way.”

I’m reminded of the story of a young school girl who tried to maintain a positive perspective following a geography test. Apparently she began to have some doubts about her answers. because in her prayers at bedtime, she was heard to say, “…and please, God, make Chicago the capitol of California.”

Attempts to direct our positive attitude toward preconceived conclusions, however well-intentioned, can be frustrating, misleading and, too often, disappointing.

I know a person who was just informed that it would be a good idea to seek alternative employment. Being an advocate of positive thinking, he built a good positive attitude about employment and implemented a plan to get a job. What he failed to realize was that his attitude to “get” a job, implied that he did not have one. Our minds will produce its content so his intent to “get” a job carried a negative connotation.

Be alert! “I want” is another way of saying “I don’t have” and is likely to produce a lack.

He would have been better off had he proclaimed that in the infinity of his true identity he was ALREADY employed and structured his mindset to be responsive to the “events and circumstances” that must, by law, unfold. This is “positive expectancy”; knowing the answer BEFORE it happens.

Like any “law,” positiveness has an implied opposite. “Opposites” according to Webster are “elements that are so far and diverse as to be totally irreconcilable one to the other.” The opposite of “positive” is “negative” which Webster defines simply as “the opposite or negation of something.” It is, therefore, without power, authority and is self-destructive.

So when invoking a positive mindset, keep “you” out of the way as you would when invoking the laws and principles of mathematics when you balance your checkbook. Keep your mind open to provide the right mental environment (mindset) that will permit the law to express itself as the “events and circumstances” that comprise your entire life experience.

This action is mandated by law. And LAW is defined by Webster as “a principle that always works and is enforced by a governing authority.” And what is that “governing authority?” It is included in Webster’s definition of natural laws and principles: “the creative and controlling forces of the universe.”

MISTER !

This was a first for me. If ever there was a right of passage that identified me as an accepted “adult” with some semblance of coming authority, this was surely IT.

Fast forward to a more recent time. I overheard a person refer to me as that “older gentleman.”

What’s going on here? What’s changed? Who am I, really? As far as I am concerned, I’m the same “Dave Goss” I’ve always been. I have always been aware of being “me”… NOW…..devoid of anything called time other than to be aware of a continuity of events and circumstances that has comprised the tapestry of my life experiences.

Close your eyes and see if you can accept the fact that the only “place” these experiences can exist is as mental images in your present consciousness awareness.

Rene Descartes, back in the 15th century, made the observation, “Cogito ergo sum,” which translates from Latin as “I think, therefore, I am.” First person. Singular. Present tense.

One could make the argument that we have TWO existences. One is a “human” persona who experiences a never ending continuity of events and circumstances over which we seem to have no control. These are really sensations occurring in my personal ever-present conscious NOW and flow into an unknown something we call a future leaving only a mental awareness of them in a wake we call the past.

The way my reasoning process works, I couldn’t just leave it there. Among the other characteristics, I am also an observer contemplating these phenomena. “Who or what is this ‘observer’ who is aware of such things? ‘Wherein is he to be accounted of?’” (Isaiah 2:22)

“Let us reason together,” go back to Descartes and realize that included in this awareness that “I am” I include the capacity to reason which Webster defines as, “an orderly, logical mode of thinking; the power of the intellect by which one attains to truth and knowledge.”

I know I am not self-created, so I must be the result of a greater power that did. And whatever “power” this is must be all-inclusive and infinite: “That which is limitless, boundless, endless and greater than any pre-assigned finite value however great.” (Webster)

By its very nature and definition, there is no place or time for infinity to be anything other than infinite and, therefore, could never have had a beginning nor and ending; just all-inclusive self-awareness. Whatever is true of infinity, is true of me. NOTHING ELSE IS! Logic demands that we accept the fact that “I am” is an integral part of, and under the absolute control of, ONE single, undivided infinite IS-ness. Period.

How do I know this? Because the “I” of me is the “I am” of consciousness… Being an element of infinity it all comes from within, as Galileo noted. By its very nature and definition, NOTHING can exist independent of this infinite inner thing we call CONSCIOUSNESS. I am individually experiencing this in the constancy of an ever-present NOW as defined by Webster as an “awareness, known or felt by one’s inner self.”

Somewhere between “Mister” and that “elderly gentleman” something happened. As I look back, that which I thought were overwhelming problems awakened me to realize that all my problems emanated from one root cause, and when I could understand and implement this common cause all problems, regardless of their nature or apparent severity, would disappear as effortlessly as darkness disappears in the presence of light.

That was more than 50 years ago and the principles are still working. For example, all my obligatory physical check-ups bring forth a common question from the Doctors, “What are you doing? You’re 86 and are healthier than most peoples half your age.” I tell them that I read a good book.

“Oh,” they ask, “the Bible, huh?”

“Well, that, too,” I tell them. “But I’ve written my own book telling others how they can learn and experience “The Science of LIVING BETTER FOREVER” the way I have.”

Today, I am neither “Mister” at one end nor that “elderly gentleman” at the other. I’m just a happy guy living in an infinite world with “Health to spare, Love to share and Friends who care” and doing so in a present NOW without a limited sense of anything. What a world! I love it! My new “raison d’etre” is to share my proven, scientific message with others seeking peace, success and prosperity in a chaotic world seemingly bent on self-destruction.

From Galileo to Dr. Einstein, we have been given the answers as to how to prove our dominion over problems. Even if one professes to believe the many biblical references and allegories that detail how to “overcome evil with good” and the revelation God is all power and “beside me there is no other”, we still tend to fear and react to negatives and destructive elements more than we do to exercising the necessary mental disciplines to overcome them.

We are guilty of adhering to the old saying, “We grow too soon old and too late smart”.

One is forced to review Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” wherein prisoners are chained and immobilized inside a cave with their backs to the opening through which light projects shadows on the cave’s back wall. The prisoners could view only the shadows on the wall; these became their only sense of reality. Their interpretation of them represented the only world they knew.

Then, one of the prisoners broke his bonds and escaped from the cave. From outside the cave he could see the real world and the source of the light. From this new perspective, he realized that the shadows, which he was brought up to believe represented reality were, in fact, only fraudulent interpretations of reality. He discovered a new world free of limiting shadows, a world of ever-expanding enlightenment and an awareness of his unity with it.

In his enthusiasm, he returned to the cave to share his new discovery with the prisoners only to be rejected as a misinformed victim of some irrational philosophy that deviated from the real world. Most of the “prisoners” are not impressed by such a concept even though it promises to free them. They will continue living in their world of shadows and continue to complain about the inequities they represent. But some others will be responsive and explore this new world of expanding opportunities.

We have just had an election. Many will be elated at the outcome and anticipate better times ahead with fewer problems. Many other will be disappointed and prepare to survive in a world they feel is heading in the wrong direction.

In spite of these diverse positions, the universe outside the cave is still in full operation maintaining its own integrity. We will experience that which we accept as shadows on Plato’s cave wall or the real world powered by irrevocable laws and principles outside the cave. Being opposites, we can have one or the other, but not both at the same time.

As for me, I’ll go along with Galileo, Dr. Einstein and the bible and find balance within my own conscious awareness. I never did like caves, anyway.

I just saw another documentary on television that made references to the brain’s magical powers. It presented the “brain” as some unexplained mechanism that yields all sorts of information, controls all the functions of the body (usually at its own whim), is the seat of all knowledge, is the source of intelligence and is responsible for just about everything both good and bad

Maybe it’s just my creative nature, but I always question everything; particularly experts. One of my themes has always been “Take Time to Think“. If I am going to get a realistic handle on what my life is all about, I want it to be based on sound, irrefutable reasoning not wishy-washy theories without reason. Reasoning is “the power of the intellect whereby one attains to knowledge”(Webster). That’s good enough for me.

I’ve heard for years, from these same “experts”, that matter, of which the brain is composed, is, by definition, “an inert substance of which something is composed” (Webster). Materialism is a theory that “everything can be explained as being or coming from matter….” (Webster).

If we are to believe these experts that the “brain” has the qualities and capacities they ascribe to it, it could keep on functioning even if removed and isolated in a Mason jar.

Where is the logic here? According to Webster, logic is “a science that deals with the rules and tests of sound thinking and proof by reasoning“. (Webster) One of the cardinal rules of logic is that whatever appears in the premise must also appear in the conclusion. It is a contradiction of terms to ascribe a “power” to an inert substance that can somehow function as an independent center of communication and authority.

These brain experts fail to factor into their reasoning the fact that the very act of initiating these intellectual activities involves the activity of their own individual consciousness. It is their consciousness which is doing the observing and interpreting their own observations through the prism of their intellectual training which is independent of any material accompaniment…. including a thing called a “brain”.

It is axiomatic that one cannot be aware of anything except that which is in his own consciousness. Even their research has to be motivated by an intellectual desire to do so and involves “a quality that distinguishes a vital functioning being from inanimate matter. (brain)” This quality is that which is “known or felt by one’s inner self” or “consciousness.” This is an act of intelligence expressing itself through and as our individual conscious awareness. It is our true identity and has nothing to do with a “thing” called a “brain” or any other inert stuff.

So when the time comes for you to evaluate and do business in the distorted world around you, you owe it to yourself to look to your inherent intelligence; your “ability to learn and understand” (Webster) through consciousness rather than depending on theories involving materialism. Remember it was Galileo who reminded us that we must “…find it within ourselves”.

This is pretty heavy stuff but “Take Time To Think” about it. Use your intellect to contemplate the facts. You’ll feel better for it. I do.
