We all aspire to achieving that seemingly elusive “peace that passeth understanding.” It represent that Utopian mental state where we are free from earthly pressures, anxieties and fear of the future.

Do you think for a minute that you will ever find this kind of peace and freedom originating in the finite world that is the root cause of universal discord, chaos and confusion?

Never!

Peace is embodied exclusively in the one infinite consciousness which, by its own infinite nature, knows no opposites such as chaos, confusion, conflict and corruption.

To experience that ”peace that passeth understanding,” we must lift our conscious awareness out of the finite human mind and totally embrace the one infinite conscious.

Transforming the focus of your conscious awareness is not unlike the phenomenon of viewing an optical illusion. In focusing your attention on the diagram you find that, sooner or later, the diagram seems to shift from one perspective to another. To shift the focus of your consciousness, find some quiet place, relax, empty your mind of all thoughts, mentally see the infinitude of your mental vision and assume an expectant LISTENING attitude.

Like the optical illusion, you will become aware of shift in your conscious awareness and an overwhelming sense of freedom, joy and well being. This shift may happen immediately or might take some time. Make it a habit to repeat this “search” as many times a day as you can.

We must constantly challenge ourselves by asking, “Consciousness where are thou? Art thou in the belief that the mind is in matter and that evil is mind? or art thou living in the faith that there is no other mind but God and keeping His commandments?” (“Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy, pg. 307)

It was Helen Keller who said, “I do not want the peace that passeth understanding, I want the understanding that bringeth peace.”

The impact of this “peace that passeth understanding” may last only a split second but it will be so intense, you will not mistake it for anything other than the one infinite consciousness making itself known to you.

Let us lift our consciousness to contemplate and understand the infinite vastness of the one true conscious awareness that defines the universe. This true, unopposed nature of this universe is absolute, defined by Webster as, “That which is free from imperfection or mixture.” It forbids the existence of any opposing concepts. Know, too, that this infinite, peaceful universe is forever committed to maintaining your well being through its own mandated laws and principles.

I’m sure it’s a terrific program that will benefit many people. Over the years I have signed up for a jillion such programs and have realized a lot of good from them. But I have also found that, for me, there was something missing. I still had to struggle to overcome some of the same old problems that seemed to be a part of what I’ve come to identify as “me.” They may have changed their characteristics but the root cause of my problems seemed to linger.

Don’t misunderstand what I’m saying here. I encourage people to pursue as many self-help programs as they can handle; and there are a lot of real good ones available. But in doing so, I would ask that they be alert to recognize a certain thread of sameness that they all seem to share.

They all seem to share the view that makes the difficulty, the problem or discord a real “something” that is preventing them from achieving whatever goal or objective they are seeking. Through whatever means proposed by a particular philosophy, in one way or another, they adopt a confrontational approach and set out to do battle with this “enemy” with the intent of destroying it and thereby freeing them to realize their objective.

In my opinion, this confrontational approach runs the risk of creating more frustration than solutions because it assumes the problem area is real and has some inherent power to do possible harm. One would benefit by considering an additional dimension that will render all these common approaches more effective. Let me give you an example:

Upon entering a darkened room, you are confronted by problems. You bump into objects, become disoriented and experience confusion and chaos. In order to resolve your disorientation, you do not strike out against the darkness, you TURN ON THE LIGHT! This reveals the complete room and its contents which ALREADY EXISTED.

Similarly, you must realize, with scientific understanding, that problems are not natural to you and that, in truth, you are ALREADY free. When you learn to reject problems with the same assurance and conviction with which you turned on the light and you will realize the natural, pressure free, harmonious life experiences that are already as natural to you as wet is to water.

In biblical terms, “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Here there is no reference to confronting and overcoming an obstacle in order to gain your freedom, there is none. We are admonished to “KNOW the truth….”

The real universe in which we truly “live and move and have our being” (Acts: 27-29) is here and now and is maintained in perpetuity by natural laws and principles, defined by Webster as the “creative and controlling forces of the universe”. When you know and understand this truth, your freedom is assured. It is mandated by LAW, which defined by Webster as, “A rule or principle that always works and is enforced by a governing authority.” That “governing authority”? The “creative and controlling forces of the universe!”

So where does that leave you and me? Is our only option to sit back and be unwilling victims of situations over which we have no control?

Let’s get real! Do you think for one minute that you or I, as individuals, no matter how intensely we may feel about what we are told of world conditions, that we are going to be invited to the world’s seat of authority to influence the world economy, the energy crisis, fear of destruction by terrorists or the bone-head decisions made by those in authority? Never! Our individual reaction to world conditions reaches no further than our own personal feelings.

However, when we know how, we, individually, CAN exercise control over these feelings and prosper in spite of declining world conditions. We can be like a bird who has taken refuge in a protected shelter above the turmoil of a raging river’s storm-tossed fury. We can observe the storm but remain untouched by it.

And the beauty of it is that no matter who is elected President and no matter what policies a new administration enacts, we can still be our own individual selves in control of our individual life experiences. We can do this in proportion to our focused, disciplined adherence to the natural laws and principles that comprise and sustain the order and perfect rhythm of the flawless universe of which we are an inexorable part.

From Galileo to Einstein, the world’s clear thinkers have been telling us how to find the solutions to our problems, the answers to our questions, the resolutions of our conflicts, the peace in our hearts and the stability in our lives. They tell us that we must look within our own conscious awareness. It behooves us to listen to them. To accept this as simply an intellectual truism is not enough. In and of itself, it is just another academic abstraction and “feel good” exercise.

To make it work in our experience, we must push the “activate” button. We must totally reject any and all suggestions that would oppose or challenge the integrity of our true identity as the perfect, complete, balanced representatives of the universe which is “the whole without limit or exception” (Webster)

Maintaining this mindset, any discordant picture will automatically adjust to conform to the natural harmony and balance of the universe. With this mindset, we can no more experience discord than Columbus could fall off the edge of a flat world!

If we wish to alter the conditions, we experience in this finite world, logic demands that we do so by aligning our consciousness (thinking) with the truth of these “creative and controlling forces of the universe” and let them so dominate the false interpretation that they disappear.

This is the only proper way to solve problems and restore harmony and balance in our life. This procedure is truly “scientific” which, by definition, is “the knowledge or discovery of the operation of laws, principles and facts subject to proof”. (Webster)

Unfortunately we have been taught to be confrontational when presented with a problems or tough challenges. A difficult situation presents itself to us and we immediately look upon it as an enemy with whom we must do battle. This is the prime cause of all conflict and its resultant discords. We must see that that thing we have defined as our problem is not a condition that needs to be overcome, it is simply the absence of the right idea, answer or solution and possesses no power, authority or reality other than that which we individually assign to it.

All answers and solutions to all questions and problems are ALREADY resident in your infinite, all-inclusive mind. The negative problem cannot exist alone. Its only claim to existence is dependent upon there being a positive answer or solution to be a negation of. When you provide the necessary receptive mental environment, the answers will be revealed. Problems will disappear as surely and as effortlessly as darkness disappears in the presence of light!

Where do problems go? They go to the same place the flat world went as soon as Columbus discovered that it was really round. They go to the same place the darkness goes as soon as you turn on the light. The problems don’t GO anywhere because they never were a something to begin with!

With our new-found understanding, we can scientifically reject all problems by knowing that they are simply unreal suggestions that attempt to get a response from us. By recognizing this, we can prevent them from polluting our experiences and we can let the “controlling forces of the universe” assert themselves and keep our lives in harmonious balance in the real universe.

Harmony in our individual experiences is in proportion to our conscious awareness of our true identity as integral expressions of one infinite, dominating laws and principles that comprise the one universe. The universe is defined by Webster as, “the whole body of things observed or assumed including the whole without limit or exception; occurring everywhere”. It is an error-free continuum that has been in full operation throughout all eternity. This could not occur if it contained any element of error or self-destruction.

To bring this point home, in your imagination, imagine what would happen if, even for an instant, 2 + 2 = 7 instead of “4″. The rippling effect of that simple interruption of the universe’s perfect balance would collapse it in an instant. This is further confirmation that the chaos we observe in the world around us is likewise impossible as a reality. If problems were real and existed in accordance with natural laws and principles, they would be as perpetual as the universe and could no more be destroyed than man’s puny efforts could alter the sunrise.

Years ago I was sure that I had more than my share of problems. I felt like I was trapped between the sword and the wall with no apparent means of escape.

It was then that I made an exciting discovery. I discovered that THERE IS ONLY ONE PRIMAL CAUSE OF ALL PROBLEMS. When this root cause is known, understood and properly implemented, all problems, regardless of their nature or apparent severity, will disappear like snowflakes on a hot griddle and do so as effortlessly as darkness disappears in the presence of light.

I found that with the proper application of this discovery, all my problems began to fade away and finally disappeared. Not that I wouldn’t be faced with difficult challenges over the years (not the least of which was my survival of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans) but all have been harmoniously resolved and I continue to enjoy a growing continuity of satisfying personal and professional life experiences.

Yet in spite of all this, there are more unsolved problems in the world today than at any other time in history. What the world needs is a new approach to problem solving that can assure success with predictable, scientific certainty. My discovery fills this need by disclosing natural laws and principles in a no-nonsense continuity of facts, reason and logic.

“More than 30 years’ experience”. That takes me back! I realized that I’ve had more than 20 years experience on top of the 30 years I already had up to that time. I’ve learned a lot since then. I even like to think I’m smarter than I was then.

I don’t believe it, but the world time-keeper tells me I have also grown older. The universe is sustained and maintained in perfect harmony and balance by irrevocable natural laws and principles. These “laws and principles” are defined by Webster as “the creative and controlling forces of the universe”.

By virtue of the fact that these controlling forces are in full operation here and now after countless billions of years is sufficient proof that they will remain operating forever. Logic forces the conclusion, then, that there never was a time when these laws and principles were not in operation. This kind of perpetuity embraces Webster’s definition of “infinity”: “That which is limitless, boundless, endless and greater than any pre-assigned finite value however great”.

There are no exclusions to the infinity of the universe; you couldn’t separate yourself from it if you wanted to. As great and all-inclusive as the universe is, it has no power to create anything unlike itself. It is totally impersonal. Its perfection is your perfection. Period. With no exceptions.

“But”, you may ask, “why do I experience such unhappiness, feel the pressure of my spouse’s drug problem and fear for our financial future? I see turmoil, conflict, destruction and evidence of more chaos all around me. And the ‘experts’ predict that it will get worse before it gets better”.

If problems were controlled by law, they could never be negated but would be as perpetual and unchanging as the universe.

Whatever it takes, you MUST discipline yourself to reject all negative suggestions as being invalid, without actual existence or power. When you can accept and identify with the universe, to the exclusion of all else, this mindset will manifest itself in your experience as universal harmony, balance, peace and love. The law of “like begets like” will be invoked. No negative suggestions can “come nigh thy dwelling place” because you have negated their cause: ignorance or rejection of the “controlling forces of the universe”.

And what about the interpretation of a finite universe as offered by leading scientists and scholarly experts who study every observable phenomenon from the infinitesimal to the infinite? They draw conclusions predicated on there being a finite, measurable beginning; the very idea of which challenges the idea of infinity. They justify their conclusions on an intellectual assumption of there being a beginning, which they define as the “Big Bang”. Such a finite premise leads to finite conclusions that are polluted by the acceptance of the idea of limited time and space and the conflict of opposing powers. Such a scenario is as irrational as would be the idea that light created darkness.

When we can separate ourselves from contemplating finite interpretations (problems of whatever definition) we will experience a freedom unknown to those who cannot accept the absolute infinity of the universe. Any concept of a “Big Bang” beginning ignores all evidence to the contrary.

If you are not experiencing a full measure of these birthright characteristics right now, there is only one simple reason why: There are some unresolved problems in your world that are preventing it from happening. Therefore, you have an eternal obligation to exercise your birthright and learn how to solve problems.

From earliest recorded history, mankind has endured one problem after another. Your own personal or professional experiences reflect this syndrome. As soon as one seems to be resolved, another comes along to take its place. Today mankind is faced with more problems and trying situations than ever. This situation results in all manner of anxiety, trauma, stress, worries and concern for the future which, survey indicate, are increasing at an alarming rate worldwide.

What must we do, then, to be free of this plague? The “old” traditional , confrontational approach to problem solving are proven to be less than effective. What is needed is a demonstrable, new approach that is based on proven scientific natural laws and principles that, by their very nature, will yield positive results with predictable certainty.

Your individual MINDSET holds the key. By definition, “mindset” is “a mental attitude that determines and influences events and circumstances; a fixed way of thinking”. (Webster). Any picture of conflict, pressure, stagnation, frustration, confusion, uncertainty or any other negative circumstance or situation you may be experiencing is not a real “something” or power because it is direct violation of your inherent sate of unchallenged perfection and completeness which, as noted earlier, already exists in the infinity of your consciousness. All we need do is to provide a quiet, listening attitude. This will establish the proper mental environment that will allow it to express itself as your life experiences.

On page 38 of my book, “The Science of LIVING BETTER FOREVER” I give a graphic illustration that may make this point clearer.

“Imagine a sponge rubber ball that is tied up with rubber bands. These unnatural restrictions result in a ball taking on the appearance of a grotesque, distorted, non-spherical shape. But in spite of this warped appearance, it is still a ball.

“What would happen if you removed the restrictive rubber bands? As these restrictions are removed, the ball will resume its natural, spherical shape. Note this: You don’t have to do anything to the ball in order for it to take on its natural appearance as a ball. All you have to do is to remove the restrictions that have been preventing it from appearing to be what it already is.

“Your thought is much the same. It’s your acceptance of restricting, limiting thoughts and prejudices that’s preventing you from experiencing the peace, harmony, success, prosperity and freedom which are as natural to you as round is to the ball.”

Completely remove your thought from the negative conditions that define you problem, embrace only the vastness of your true being as an integral part of “the whole body of things without limit or exception” with a “listening” attitude. Having done this you have done all you can do. As you maintain this “fixed way of thinking” your consciousness will reflect “the creative and controlling forces of the universe”. You will begin to see your circumstances from a new perspective. Any disturbing, negative “events and circumstances” will adjust themselves and reflect perfection and harmony “without limit or exception”.

Expect the best. There is no option!

Guess what? The law of “like begets like” works! The mindset of lack, limitation and depletion of resources manifest itself in like conditions. It’s a self-fulfilling prophesy. Your mindset doesn’t make any value judgments. It manifests whatever it is told; good or bad. It is the law!

If you’ve read or seen The Secret, you know they tell you if you think you’re broke, you’ll be broke! They even offer a blank check you can write yourself (from the Universe) and fill out any way you want. The idea is if you think you’re rich, you will be rich.

People are accepting the world belief in a lack of resources. This is challenged by the fact that we live in an infinite universe that, by definition is, “the whole body of things without limit or exception and accruing everywhere”. This is a classic example of the phenomenon of opposites. As detailed throughout my writings, opposites cannot coexist.

One is real and true; the other is unreal and fraudulent. The unlimited abundance of the universe and the laws and principles that govern it, represents what Webster defines as, “the creative and controlling forces of the universe”. As such they cannot be successfully challenged, debated, circumvented or altered.

You see this phenomenon at work when you balance your checkbook. If you make an error in your calculations, it will not balance. Knowing that the laws governing mathematics are inviolable, you take your thought off the conditions of the error and apply the rules of mathematics. This destroys any and all opposite, fraudulent concepts that claim to challenge it. The law is absolute!

Dr. Einstein tells us that, “no problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it. We must learn to see the world anew”. The universal problem of lack, limitation and depleted resources can never be resolved while we are accepting it as a real and valid concept. We must see the situation from a different perspective if we ever want to resolve it.

Understand this: You cannot experience anything other than that of which you are consciously aware. The only place you experience a lack of supply exists only within your own individual consciousness. It is YOUR conscious awareness and YOU are alone in your experiencing it. Anything that appears to be external to this conscious awareness is, according to Webster, “fraudulent and fictitious; an unreal illusion”. Until you can see this, your efforts to “get more supply” will be tantamount to trying to put water into the mirage in the desert or trying to straighten out the railroad tracks that appear to converge at the horizon.

Remember, because your sense of lack is not real, any effort to “correct” the situation means that you still believe there is a real situation to correct and that it is a real power over which you must gain control. There is a slogan I have in my Thought Box that reminds me that “When you react to appearances, you are not in control”.

Money is not your supply. Money is one form your sense of supply takes; it is an effect of your mindset. The real nature of supply is not unlike honesty, love, gratitude, etc. Although intangible, they are real and cannot be depleted. They are infinite and omnipresent. You can prove this in your own experience by maintaining a conscious awareness of it to the exclusion of anything else.

When this conscious incorporeal sense of abundance dominates your mindset, you find it manifesting itself in appropriate forms. Remember, you are not trying to correct a fraudulent illusion and trying to make it real. Your focus must be on being quiet and allowing the “controlling forces of the universe” to express themselves in your experience. You are simply an observer and must be responsive to its directives.

Over the years, my wife and I have proven these laws and principles to be valid and demonstrable when properly implemented. We prove them in our experience every day. When it appeared that we had lost our house and everything in it to hurricane Katrina, we maintained this proper mindset.

By knowing the true substance of “things” to be infinite, intangible substance and that nothing of any real value can be taken from us, harmonious “events and circumstances” unfolded in seemingly miraculous ways. We wound up in a new, fully furnished apartment in New England where the “events and circumstances” comprising our life experiences continue to unfold harmoniously. We had again proven the validity of this principle and found that what the world calls “miracles” are simply natural laws and principles in operation.
